feeling hungry all the time?

Feeling hungry all the time?

Leptin is the hormone released from the brain that tells you you have had enough to eat. When this malfunctions? We just keep eating.

 3 Leptin aids

1. Piperine - in black pepper

2. Curcumin - in tumeric

3. Pectin - in fruits and vegetables

Lemons - especially the zest. Make lemon tea by using the zest, and then squeezing the lemon juice into your teacup.
Carrots - according to dietaryfiberfood.com, carrots have the most pectin of all the vegetables. Carrots have 0.8 g of pectin per 100gm serving.
Peas contain 0.6 g of pectin per 100 g serving. They are low in fat and high in fiber. Peas also contain vitamin K that helps fight osteoporosis

Potatoes have 0.3 g of pectin per 100 g serving. High amounts of soluble fiber, pectin is one type of this soluble fiber. When eating potatoes for the pectin content, do not peel them. Most of the fiber found in potatoes are in the skin.

Parsnips - One half a cup of cooked parsnips has 3 g of dietary fiber. Much of this dietary fiber is pectin, this can lower you LDL or "bad" cholesterol.

Green Beans - an excellent source of soluble fiber including pectin. Green beans contains0.34 g of soluble fiber per 1 cup serving.

Pectin - downside.

Too much pectin can cause bloating especially when eaten from processed foods.
The gelling properties of pectin makes it useful for adding to foods for stabilisation. For example, pectin is often used in soft drinks, desserts and dairy products.

Note; We must be aware that various sources have previously falsely reported some pectin levels incorrectly - example- in citrus - lemons were reported as high pectin levels, but actually, it is in the zest rather than the flesh. Reports simply said leptin was high in lemons.

OMG - amazing bliss balls

Amazing bliss balls

1 cup of pitted dates
1 cup of any other dried fruit - I used apricots, goji berries, currants
3/4 cup mixed raw nuts
2 tbsp of coconut oil
1/2 cup Changing Habits cacao wafers

LSA
shredded coconut

Blend  - (I fight my blender here. I have to push the content down and around to get it to chop)

The moisture content varies depending on dryness of dates, so after blending and before rolling I added LSA (ground linseed, sunflower seeds and almonds) to suit (about 3 tbsp)
Roll into balls, roll in shredded coconut
Store in the fridge

Yum as - I had to eat 3 - one after the other

Wednesday wopper - get ya wheels spinning

Juice - in your juicer

2 large leaves of kale - 100gms approx
1/8 cabbage or a small slice off a big one
Handful of mint leaves
3 oranges
4 tomatoes
1 small zucchini - I peeled half the skin off
2 carrots

Makes enough for 2 x 300ml glasses

Nutrition notes-

Kale, raw - Just 100gm serving of this superfood contains a daily dose of vitamin C and more than your daily amount of vitamin A. The calcium-rich food also provides a large dose of Vitamin K(1) – the vital nutrient to help your blood clot. And Kale is a good source of vitamin B6, folate, and manganese thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, vitamin E and several dietary minerals, including iron, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus
Cabbage - The amino acid glutamine in cabbage juice is totally gentle and cleansing on the digestive  system, detoxifying, repairing ulcers, healing and regenerating.
Mint aids digestion and promotes good colon health
Zucchini - is a very good source of potassium, an important intra-cellular electrolyte. Potassium is a heart-friendly electrolyte and helps with the reduction of blood pressure and lowering of heart rates. VitaminA, 4%. Vitamin C, 29%. Iron, 2%. Vitamin B-6, 10% Magnesium, 4%.

1. Vitamin K- Like calcium, vitamin K is known as a bone-enhancing nutrient. Studies have found that people ingesting good amounts of vitamin K are at a decreased risk of bone fractures.
There is also evidence that vitamin K helps prevent arterial calcification.

Simple body system clean up - to get over your indulgences of Xmas and New Year parties

this is what I do;

- for 3-4 days eat as much as you like of -

Raw fruit of the season, yum berries, stone fruit and melons.
Raw nuts for protein and fat.
Vege - lettuce or cabbage salads with added veg and fruit like avocado, capsicum, red onion, and add herbs like mint, basil and parsley.
For something warm a veg soup with lentils - no meat.
Drink heaps of water. Or blend some watermelon with ice for a fruit daiquiri.
Have a green veg juice with celery, mint, apple, cabbage, pineapple in.

Try not to eat the fruit after 2pm. Just vege, and have more nuts in the afternoon.

You will feel refreshed, energetic and ready to go.
