change your life - 5 top tips

Have you been thinking about leaving your day job because you have just had enough? You probably don't need to work to earn money as you have investments, like a share market portfolio, residential rental property, or government bonds, that earn good dollars already.
But you keep telling yourself all the other reasons why you keep going to the office (if it is an office) like -
How would they cope without you? the place will fall apart.
You like the social aspect. The lunches and Friday social hours.
It keeps your mind occupied.
And the big question - 'what would I do if I didn't come to work'?

Tip 1. The first 6 weeks
Your first few weeks will be great. You will get done some of those things that you have been meaning to do for ages. You can meet other friends who don't work and have long lunches and walks. You will catch up with elderly relatives, or spend more time with your children and grandchildren. You may even go on that long holiday or cruise you have been promising yourself. However you will continually look at your phone or check your emails, facebook or your latest trademe listing. Try turning the sound off and only looking at your phone every 3 hours, or align phone checking to some other activity you do.

Tip 2. The daily routine-for health and beauty
You probably have a wee list of priority things you really want to do, like go to the gym and exercise more or play golf mid week. So book a personal trainer for the next 6 weeks and get a new gym programme underway. You will be amazed what you can achieve doing your new programme at a different pace with new goals in mind. Create a routine with this and add to it other exercise activities, like midweek golf, a walking group or some activities that you might not have thought of before. You might try massage or yoga as great stress release and relaxation options. If you have a back yard maybe plant a garden. There are so many aids to being a successful gardener, just go wild. The benefits of even growing just herbs and spices to eat and share are tremendous.

Tip 3. - Know yourself, your true self.
Take some time to play and wander. Go to the places like parks and beaches or garden centres, coffee shops, malls and libraries that you have previously enjoyed. You may need to push yourself to go alone, but you will soon find there are others also at these places alone, just enjoying the quiet or the coffee shop buzz or whatever it is. Take with you a notebook and write down what you see. Make lists of the things that grab your eye. Listen to what you hear people say, write that down too. Quiet yourself down and start to observe what you are really seeing and hearing, and enjoying. From this activity you will start to see what you really want to do thats meets your hearts desire. Is it writing poems, painting, doing volunteer work, or maybe inventing some handy item we have all been waiting for. You may find you have a passion for collecting tea pots or something fanciful you have spotted.

Tip 4 - take the action towards your new found passion
Research, read and discover all there is about your new found passion. See who else does the same thing. Follow them on social media. Join groups, free or cheap ones, often have the most interesting people attend. If you intend to travel, travel to events or places where you will find pieces of your new passion.

Tip 5 - Keep your diary alive and moving.
You will now realise the true value of your diary. Book it out, set reminders and include all those activities that meets your hearts desire. It only matters to you now what time of day you do these things. If you sleep late or in the afternoon, only to be up at 1am on Skype with someone on the other side of the world to talk about the content of the next event for one of your passions, it is important, to you.

You will soon wonder how on earth you had time to go to work. You will do 'your work' and it will be your true desire and will serve you and other people well.
